Art Biz Boost

Yesterday I asked you to help me come up with a new name for the Do This newsletter and we might have a winner.

How does THE ART BIZ BOOST work for you?

Changed my mind. Right now I'm liking "Art Marketing Moves."
Thoughts?

How about "Art Smart," and then have a tagline, like marketing and business advice for artists.

I like Art Biz Boost, but it sounds a little informal - depends on what you're going for. And folks probably wouldn't search for 'biz' given the spelling.

By the way, I'm looking forward to reading your blog, as I'm an artist just beginning to dive into exhibits and the business side of things.

Thanks, Lorraine. I like it! Except that it is (sort of) already taken. That's one of the main things you have to contend with these days on the Internet. I'm with you in thinking that Art Biz isn't too searchable, but that's why keywords would have to be carefully placed in the text. "Art Marketing Help" and "Artist Marketing" are phrases that my site is optimized for. And "Art Biz" is my brand as you can tell by my links on the side. I'm open to suggestions!

I really like Do This. It is like a kick in the pants not a boost.

Alyson, I had always *thought* the entire newletter name was "Do This: Art Marketing Newsletter"

It always seemed perfectly adequate to me. "Art Smart" sounds a bit too... uh ... Cosmo-girl. Art Biz Boost is ... uh ... kinda ... uh ... not sharp.

"Art Marketing Moves" seems like a late-night infomercial. Or maybe a Bob Seger song.

As a professional (they've paid me for it) copy-writer for (long time), your "Do This: Art Marketing Newsletter" title is nearly beyond reproach. It's got a catchy beginning, a solid middle, and comes to a good end. AND: It's unambiguous. It tells you what it is, in no uncertain terms. VERY important from both a branding point of view and for 'NETwork.

And, '"do this" art marketing' shows at #1 on Google.

I was surprised to hear you are planning to change your newsletter name. I think 'Do This' says it all--action oriented, straight to the point of what you are trying to get your readers to do--do something! Take action!

I agree with many of the comments that Do This is a good name. But if you're set on changing the name how about: Art in Action - Actively Marketing Your Art. Or something along those lines.

I understand what everyone's saying. I'm confused by Walt's comment about being #1 in Google. My concern is who in the world is going to Google "do this art marketing"? I don't see "do this" as a Googleable phrase.

If the title changes, I won't lose the action steps of the newsletter or the "do this" within the newsletter. I like "art marketing action" as a tagline, but I'd rather have it be the main title.

I like Do This. There's nothing like a call to action to motivate people.

When I receive my email in my business account I receive a LOT of spam. "DO THIS" always stands out, catches my eye...I ALWAYS read it right away and NEVER delete it by mistake.

I like the "Do This" name for the newsletter.

It's simple and straight forward and to me perfectly captures your style of advice.

The world today is full of useless double speak that sounds much too polished to me. I think "Do This" fits you Alyson. You aren't full of hype and useless verbage; you are direct and to the point.

The newsletter contains concrete suggestions for something we can DO. That's the beauty of it. It's not just general advice, but instead a small step we can take each week to move forward. And you have captured this in your simple name.

Adding "Art Marketing Newsletter" onto the title will give you all the advantages of the google search you are looking for. And the keyword "newsletter" is going to get you a lot further in google than "moves".

THe name is not so important to me. As a business, I would be concerned about driving new customers to your site by choosing Google-able words.

Smart action(/marketing) plans to boost your art career.

Go for solid strong (maybe boring) to bring in people that are looking for a confident voice.

-Artist defines the audience over dealers, collectors, etc.

ps. the photo... again serious gets my confidence. Leave coy for the boys.
How about a photo of you on the phone -happy talking to an artist perhaps about the successes you have helped with!

Like Walt; I also always thought the entire newletter name was "Do This: Art Marketing Newsletter" and I liked it. Don't really see any advantage to changing it! It'd be like changing a trade mark or slogan; and I've always heard you should never change those things.

I like the title "Do This" for the reason it always gives me the courage, also a feeling of authority to actually do what you are telling us to do. The other title I think might work would be."TO THE POINT"

I am in agreement with those who say that "Do This" is an action statement. Somehow, having the words right there on the page make it more likely that I will, in fact, "do this." It would not be as attention-getting if the title were changed to something more trendy and less authoritative. Please, don't change it!

I agree with those who like keeping "Do This" in the newsletter title. "Do This: Art Marketing Newsletter" works fine for me. Since you do use "Art Biz" across the board, then if you must change it, how about "Art Biz Weekly Actions", "Art Biz Weekly Marketing Steps (or actions)". Bottom line, I agree with those who have said it is more than tips or advice or a boost....

Keep "Do This!" It's perfect for the newsletter, and besides, many of us have gotten kind of attached to it.

I agree with the comments above. I like "Do This! Art Marketing Newsletter" a lot, and it is stronger than the other options suggested.

Please keep "Do This!" I agree with one of the previous comments -- that it's like a kick in the pants to get moving -- just do it. And it always catches my eye when I see it in my inbox.

The other mrkting newsltrs I get put a teaser in the subj so I know what the content is.
They also use my name, so I read "Pam, here are 3 tips to improve your art sales..."
"Do This" suffers in comparison in my inbox since it doesn't promise a benefit like the others do.
Also, I want to get to know you, Alyson, so I want to read "Alyson Stanfield's Art Coaching Tips".
I want to see "Pam, I have another great idea for you..." or "Pam, have you ever held an art party?" in my subj line.
"Do This" is faceless, nameless. Anyone could write or take over the newsltr, should you ever want to sell it.
But with "Alyson's Art Coaching Tips" you'd be building more of a reputation.
And that is something I feel you are trying to teach me.
Building a brand name as an artist, being unique, being myself. You're my role model.
I always have to keep reminding myself that art is sold more because of the artist than the artwork. It's personal.
And so are you.
Also, you could collect all your articles, put it in a book with your name on it and I'd buy it.
I wouldn't buy a book called "Do This! A Collection of Art Biz Newsltrs."
