I’ve struggled all day. Fridays are my day to write the Art Marketing Action newsletter, which comes out each Monday. Sometimes it’s obvious, effortless, and flows. Other times, like today, it’s like pulling teeth.
I find the best thing to do in these situations is to work on something else. I can’t force genius.
Okay, I can’t even force mediocrity. There are plenty of other things on my desk that I must take care of. Stewing over a few words for hours won’t help anyone.
I also took a break and sat on our new chair with Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit on my lap. (Great read! You must have this on your book shelf.) It was only appropriate that the next chapter was about getting out of a rut. Go figure. It worked! I put aside the topic I was working on and came up with an entirely new topic that flowed right out of my fingers. Sometimes, you just have to keep moving.

Brilliant book, that one! I often end up recommending it to friends.

Interesting coincidence. I just talked about this booked on my blog a few days ago. For a slightly different opinion of this book… http://blog.lisacall.com/2006/01/book-reviews.html
Alyson, now you know how we feel doing that artist statement assignment!! Great minds definitely think alike, as I’m reading Twyla Tharp’s book right now. Another book I would suggest is Isabel Losada’s A Beginners Guide to Changing the World. I could not put it down, so did not get to sleep until after midnight.
