Shameless Self-Promotion Workshop for Artists

by Alyson Stanfield on May 3, 2006

The Shameless Self-Promotion workshop in Jackson, Michigan, was a huge success. Not because of me, but because of one person: Jane Robinson. Jane is an artist there who somewhat selfishly wanted some help with her art marketing and rallied the forces to bring me there.

We had 62 artists from all over Michigan, and even Illinois and Ohio. It was incredible.

If there’s one thing that is a common theme in my workshops it is this: You are not alone! Yes, you have to do the work. The ambition and drive must come from within you. But there was a ton of support in that room. Artists brainstorming with other artists to help them with their careers and businesses. No one starts out by knowing this, but everyone has to learn it.Absjr_sm

As I say at the end of each workshop, building a career is like climbing a mountain. You must:

  • Have a goal
  • Know the path
  • Be prepared
  • Find support
  • Take baby steps

Take a look at the Art Marketing Action workshops site to see if you might be interested in hosting one in your area. As Jane proved, it only takes one person with a dream to make it happen.
