Don’t forget your business cards!

by Alyson Stanfield on June 22, 2006

I made a HUGE mistake today. I went to a neat panel Q&A with representatives from Denver newspapers, magazines, and television stations. Then, we did a breakout session to talk about our specific needs (sort of). Anyway, it was at the Chamber of Commerce (I didn’t know this beforehand–long story) and there were about 60-70 people there.

How many business cards do you think I had with me? Two! And they didn’t have my new address on them. I had to cross out the old address as I judiciously selected who would get them.

BAD networker I am!

Don’t do as I do. Do as I say. Carry loads of biz cards with you wherever you go. I’m putting more together right now. I may not need them right away, but they’ll be ready.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS be prepared to network. You just never know.

More about business cards.

And on the blog (three postings down the page a little).

Yeah, I know the feeling. I did the same thing at a local networking event. I was in such a hurry to get there that I forgot to grab some cards. I only had one left in my wallet and it was bent up, not very professional. I have gotten in the habit of keeping my car stocked with cards also. I put some in the glove box and some in the center console, just in case.

Just goes to show you, when you least expect it, it’s a networking opportunity. Good lesson to remember. Hmm…Chamber of Commerce might be something to think about.
