Tell people where you are

Don't forget to put your location on your Web site and blog. Telling us where you are in the world gives us context. It helps frame your story.

You never know how people will relate to you. It might be your location that does the trick. Maybe they grew up in your town or maybe they have a friend that lives there.

If you don't have your address, at least add your location to your Bio or About Me page.

Speaking of locations

Late Sunday night I returned from my trip to Asheville and Christine Kane's Great Big Dreams retreat.

In Asheville, longtime subscriber and client Laurie McCarriar showed me her studio, the River Arts District, and downtown Asheville. I am so grateful for local knowledge when I visit a new place. We had a lovely lunch at the vegetarian restaurant The Laughing Seed, which I highly recommend.

I also ran into Genie Maples in her studio. Genie looked at me and said "I know you!" She's been a subscriber for awhile, but I guess just didn't expect me to show up at her doorstep. That was kinda cool.

At the workshop in Asheville (Fletcher)
I've never before given a workshop at night. I've never had candles burning at a workshop. And I've never had my audience liquored up before I talk. Okay, I exaggerate about my audience imbibing a great deal, but you can see the spread for yourself.

I always have workshop participants practice their 10-second introductions.

Here I am with workshop hostess Marilyn Sholin and participant Annell Metsker. Marilyn has renovated her lovely home on a wooded street to hold workshops (she teaches digital painting). It's a beautiful and amazing setup. I admit that I was a little envious of the room.

It was such a fantastic evening with you and all the artists! I look forward to learning more from you and going over my notes. Glad you loved our Workshop home here. After your evening we had four very full days of both blog and digital art workshops and I will be putting it all up on my own blog shortly. Isn't it great to meet people in person?!
