Since I've retired I have less discretionary funds and more time; I am happy to support my favorite causes by donating pieces of art from time to time. I love the idea of organizing larger events such as you've mentioned in your podcast.

This past year I've been working on a project for a local family whose house was burned to the ground by a lightening storm the day after their son was involved in a serious accident. They were all at the hospital or they'd have been killed. I took charred tiles from the rubble and have been painting angels on them and people have been donating money to the family for them. The family is also very involved in the Rural and Migrant Ministry, so we're hoping we can use some of these paintings or cards made from them to benefit that organization.

Hello Alison,
Your artbiz coaching this week talks about contributing art to charities which is something I have been doing for some time.
I was particularly interested as I recently I contributed one of my designs for cycling jerseys to fundraising for 'The Big Issue' http://soulsongart.wordpress.com/2009/05/05/the-big-ride-for-the-big-issue/
The Big Ride was from London to Paris and was organised to occur in the lead up to the Tour de France.
An interesting newsletter highlighting the value in supporting worthwhile charities.
kind regards
Lynette Weir

This is a great Podcast. My wife Paula donates art to many of her favorite causes each year. She finds it worthwhile and very fulfilling that she can help out in her own way. Here is a perfect example here: http://paulamacleodmosaics.com/blog/12160/Paula-donates-to-the-7th-Annual-Independent-Animal-Rescue-Painted-Chair-Auction
