Fine art takes time. This venue puts artists in a circus environment. The usual unusual work will most likely be for the lowest common denominator spectator. My feeling that give my work its strength can not be turned off and on like a trained seal.
Thanks for the info anyway.

I can't help but think that this will encourage more meaningless shock art and celebrity stardom strivings in the art world. Yeah....just what we need.

Maybe it will be entertaining is a dark sort of way, but for the life of me I can't imagine the studio executives are going to select artists destined to create genuinely fine art. This seems to just turn thing one their heads.

Many of these types of shows test the contenders' ability to problem-solve and think on their feet. Those skills are critical to an artist, though certainly not the only skills necessary. A show like this may not be the best representation of what it takes to be an artist, but I agree it should make for interesting viewing.

No, I wouldn't audition. Besides, my paintings have been a little pitchy lately.

While I have watched Project Runway as a guilty pleasure, I wonder how are artists whose works are so diverse (painters, sculptors, photographers, etc.) going to be able to "compete" or why they would want to in such a toxic and contrived environment. At least with the other shows there is a common denominator (food or fabric) with which the participants have always worked.

I can't think of a greater death knell of creativity for the visual artist than a process of this nature.

We need more cooperation among artists (and folks in general), not more competition. The whole culture of I'm better than you, my country's better than yours, my religion the one true faith, etc. unsettles me. One thing I love about being an artist is that I don't feel in competition with other artists. I feel a camaraderie and a desire to celebrate the successes of one another, and I find that attitude to be pervasive in the artistic community. As Ben Franklin once said, "We'll either hang together, or we'll hang separately."

We watch these new format reality competitions & get involved in why & why not candidates were picked...Does Adam Lambert ring a bell? This is going to be a fun ride...& the fallout has to be good for the rest of us...even if it's bad it's going to be good...

Ha, what a hoot. Most of the really talented artists I know are such shy introverts. Should be a fun casting challenge.
