You never know what will take place over the course of a year. You never know how many other artists that person is going to run into in the months to come or how many other portfolios he’ll look through. You have to keep your name in front of people.

Your work isn’t doing you any good stuck in your studio. While you’re waiting for the ideal opportunity, your art is aging. As it ages, so do you. Your ideas get stale because you’re not sharing your art and getting feedback. You’re not growing.

Every time I turn around, there’s another city or town wanting to rebrand itself as an arts destination. I can’t tell you how often I hear this: “Our city council is really supporting the arts and trying to get arts tourists in town.”
