The Twitter Tweekly is back! These are the best of my Twitter tweets for the past week or so — cleaned up for easier blog reading.

ART MARKETING STUFF

Count the number of personal pronouns in your artist statement? Sane? Or a crazy number?

Is your artist statement older than your art? Time to get a new one.

#1 Rule for your artist statement: It should compel people to look at your art. I’d Rather Be in the Studio! p. 51

Don’t forget to provide a call to action in your emails/newsletters. What is reader to do next?

Artist marketing rule #1: Fonts, colors & logos shouldn’t overshadow your art (I’d Rather Be in the Studio! pp 77-79)

Don’t give up on your mailing list! Some artists are on my list for 3+ yrs before they ever buy from me.

More fun business card designs (blog)

Make a biz card for each piece of art from @johntunger

Have you added your social media accts to your business cards?

Have a pre-sale of your art. Make a private page on a website or blog for your best peeps

“human actions, generosity and sacrifice are more important than they ever were before” @ThisIsSethsBlog

TO THINK ABOUT

RT @copyblogger The only way to avoid offending someone is to be obscure.

And that’s just a fraction of it. Follow me on Twitter to catch it all.

FOR FUN & INSPIRATION

Looking for a new color palette for your art, website, or blog? Try Colour Lovers. It’s addicting!

FOR YOUR ART BUSINESS

Don’t use the word “local” artist online–anywhere–unless you identify with a particular geography. Geo boundaries don’t apply online. Saying “I’m a local artist” is ridiculous on a website.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Work of Art reality show starts June 9. This is one reality show I won’t miss.

Seth Godin gives good advice for how to send a personal email. I’m a fan of #3 on that list.

Watch the art:21 video of installation of ginormous paintings by Julie Mehretu. There’s so much to consider when painting really, really big.

Doing business on a handshake is risky. Chicago Art Magazine shows that a contact can help artists and art institutions eliminate future headaches and hard feelings.

Kesha Bruce was prepared for gallerist’s inquiry with a couple things she learned from my classes.

When’s the last time you updated your LinkedIn status? And have you checked out the Art Business group there?

Artists: Aim for using an image of your art with each blog post.

Cedar Lee shares a video of her art pricing strategy–guidance for when you don’t know where to begin.

An artist said I could use her images with proper credit, but she doesn’t even have size, medium, © on her own site. Remember to treat your artwork as you want others to treat it.

Artists: If your images load too slowly, Google could penalize you.

FOR THOUGHT

Facebook has now changed from FAN pages to LIKE pages. I don’t know what to think about this.

Each week here I share what I think are the best and brightest of my tweets on Twitter from the past 7 days. Usually, I repeat the exact tweet. I’m shaking things up this week.

The Tweekly has been on a hiatus for three weeks as I tried to think of what I wanted to do with it. What I know is that I need to publish this in some way. Many of my tweets link to fantastic articles and resources. I like the Tweekly as a record for selfish reasons (so I don’t lose this information). Though I’m still not sure where to take this, I’ll keep it up for the near future. So . . .
