Pick Two 8-Day Sale and a Confession

Dharma nestles up to presents under the tree.

Did you ever know in advance what your Christmas presents were?

Confession: I knew every year of my youth. And it didn’t happen honestly.

I figured out where Mom hid all of our gifts before they had bows on them. As soon as she discovered I knew of her hiding place, she found another hiding place and then another.

It wasn’t long before Mom gave up and decided to wrap gifts before they ever entered the house.

That’s when I developed super-secret unwrapping skills. Yes, and I’m not proud of this, I unwrapped gifts under the tree and rewrapped them for Christmas morning.

I was a tape-removing ninja!

I knew almost every gift that had my name on it, but it didn’t spoil the magic of the holiday. I still loved opening the packages and feigning surprise.

(I said I’m not proud of this.)

  • Naughty Alyson! I did that once (unwrapped my presents in advance) and was so mad at myself on Christmas morning that I never did it again.
Going to check out your sale now 🙂

  • Alyson, what a riot! Just means you’re human; if we didn’t have our foibles and failings, how boring would *that* be?! btw, I’ve taken every opportunity to recommend you and your services to artist/entrepreneurs on several private FB groups I belong to. I’ve been a long-time reader (might even be 8 years…) of your blogs/newsletters and have learned so much. Big fan 🙂
    Rock on,

Thanks for the warm fuzzy confession. I certainly never unwrapped and rewrapped. That would be just wrong. My brother and I knew where to look before they were wrapped. When my son was a toddler and beyond, his major gift would inevitably roll out of the back of the car in the driveway in front of him in mid-December. “What’s that?” we’d all ask. Gheezsh!

  • I did the same thing…every year!! I would even look for her gift list in her purse to see what I might have missed. My mother still doesn’t know to this day and I’m not about to tell her.

  • I couldn’t feign surprise if my life depended on it, so I wasn’t a peeker but my brother was. When I was 12, I was given adult oil paints, brushes, canvas and an easel for Christmas. My poor mom was so disappointed at my lack of surprise that I never again wanted to know what was in those packages hidden everywhere.

  • Thanks for sharing Alyson! We used to do this with the package of shortbread our Scottish grandmother sent until one year, it had been opened and rewrapped so many times it was empty Christmas morning. If Mom hadn’t cottoned on before, she sure knew then!Great ideas, I’ll let you know what I settle on.
